Notification of number of members to be elected, <1984>-[ongoing].

The state secretary holds statutory responsibility, carried out since 1948 in the secretary's Elections Division, for preparing election ballots (MGLA c 54, s 40). The division receives notification from ward and town committees of political parties of the number of members to be elected at presidential primaries (MGLA c 52, s 9), information that determines the number of spaces to be provided on the printed ballot.
